Would you use a pool after work, or would you rather have a balcony where you can eat dinner outside? Both are good reasons to choose a home. They just point you toward different places.
The same goes for a pickleball court, a walking route, or somewhere to grill with friends. You may want one of those things much more than the others. Knowing that can make it easier to choose between two homes you like.
At Putnam Properties, we can help you compare the outdoor spaces at Highbury, Dry Valley, Westgate, Northgate, and Quarry Run. Tell us what you’d use and when you’d use it, and we’ll help you ask the right questions about each community.
π― What Would You Use?
Start with how you spend time outside now, or what you’d like to do more often. If you usually come home wanting a quiet place to sit, a patio might matter more than a court. If you’re hoping to swim regularly, you’ll want to see the pool and understand its schedule. Our guide to the best apartments and homes with swimming pools in Cookeville compares the options.
Your work or class hours belong in that decision. Someone who works weekends may care about weekday access, while someone with a dog will want to see the walking route from the front door. You don’t need a long wish list. One or two things you really want can help us narrow the choices.
Our available amenities are included in rent without an additional monthly access fee. Hours, seasonal schedules, guest rules, and temporary closures can still affect when you use them. Bring those questions to us while you’re comparing homes, especially if one feature is a big reason you’re interested.
βοΈ A Quick Community Comparison

|---|---|---|
| Highbury | Pool, pickleball court, and fire pit lounge | The route from your home to shared spaces and the outdoor area of the actual home |
| Dry Valley | Ask us about current access to the pool, trails, fire pits, grills, hammocks, and cornhole | Which features are currently available and how you would use them |
| Westgate | Pool, fire pit area, covered outdoor lounge, and pet stations | Hours, seating, and the layout of shared spaces |
| Northgate | Pool, grilling stations, and dog-walking facilities | The walking route and your home’s patio or balcony, if offered |

Explore our communities to see the options, then browse available homes for the layouts and move-in dates that fit your search.

π Highbury: Pickleball, Pool Time, and a Fire Pit
At Highbury, you can compare a pool, pickleball court, and fire pit lounge. If you want options for spending time outside near home, you have several features to look at on the same visit.
Interested in playing pickleball? Start with the court. Ask how access works and what equipment you need. Then walk back to the home you’re considering. You’ll get a better sense of whether you’d use it on an ordinary evening, not just when you have a whole Saturday free. Ask how the shared fire pit works, too, before planning a get-together around it.
If you also want your own place to sit outside, look at the home’s outdoor area separately. See current Highbury homes to compare the individual layouts and features.
β¨ Dry Valley: Walking, Grilling, and Places to Sit
At Dry Valley, ask us about current access to the pool, trails, fire pits, grills, hammocks, and cornhole. If you like having a few different ways to spend time outdoors, we can show you what’s currently available.
You might care most about a walk before dinner or somewhere to meet a friend after class. Look at where those spaces are in relation to the home, rather than trying to remember a list of amenities. It helps to see the route yourself.
During the tour, we can discuss the current rules and how the shared spaces are used. If you’re interested in grilling, for example, ask what’s provided and what you’d need to bring. That gives you something practical to compare with another community.

π³ Westgate: A Covered Lounge and Shared Outdoor Spaces
Westgate has a pool, fire pit area, covered outdoor lounge, and pet stations, along with an indoor fitness center. You can look at both indoor and outdoor options while comparing homes.
The covered lounge may interest you if you want to spend time outside without every visit being a pool visit. Look at the seating and ask about hours and guest access. A covered area isn’t necessarily open in all weather or available to reserve for a private event.
Try the walk from the apartment to the spaces you’d use. If you’re heading out with a bag, a drink, or a dog, it helps to know what that everyday trip would be like.
πΎ Northgate: A Pool, Grills, and Dog-Walking Areas
At Northgate, outdoor features include a pool and pool house, grilling stations, and dog-walking facilities. You can also ask about balcony options. Check the outdoor space attached to the particular apartment you’re considering.
If you have a dog, include the walking route in your visit. Our pet amenities checklist covers what else to look for. Find the designated areas, and ask about cleanup and leash rules. A walking area may be useful for daily trips outside, but it shouldn’t be mistaken for a fenced, off-leash park.
Ask about the grilling setup before buying equipment or inviting people over. You’ll want to know what residents may use, what you need to bring, and which rules apply.
π Quarry Run: A Pool and Balcony Options
Quarry Run in Algood has a pool and pool house, with private balconies among the community’s apartment features. Check the individual listing for the outdoor space that comes with the apartment.
If you’d like somewhere to eat outside or sit with a book, take a few measurements on your tour. Think about the chairs or small table you’d actually use and leave room to move around them. Ask about outdoor storage and other rules before choosing furniture.
You may find that a home’s layout and one outdoor feature are enough to make it a strong option. There’s no need to choose a different community just because its amenity list is longer.
π Do You Want Shared Space or Your Own?
Think about when you want to be around other people and when you’d rather stay close to home. A pool or lounge gives you a place to go; a private patio or balcony may suit an evening when you just want to step outside for a few minutes.
Be specific about what you want to do there. Plants, a bicycle, outdoor meals, and pet supplies take up space and may be subject to different rules. Asking before you shop can save you from bringing home something you can’t use the way you intended.
A yard is another option, but it comes with questions about upkeep. Find out which tasks are handled for the home and which would be yours. Don’t assume a house has a yard or that “maintenance-free” covers every outdoor task; use the property details and lease to understand the arrangement.
π³ You Can Use Cookeville’s Parks, Too
Your home doesn’t have to provide every kind of outdoor activity you enjoy. Cookeville’s parks give you other places to walk, spend time outside, or meet someone away from home.
Cane Creek Park has walking and biking trail information on the city’s website. Dogwood Park, at 30 East Broad Street, offers downtown green space and a playground. Check the city’s current information for hours, facilities, and rules before visiting.
Check the trip from the actual home, including sidewalks and distance if you want to walk. If you’ll drive, try the route you’d normally take. It’s worth knowing whether a park fits easily into your week or would be more of an occasional outing.
β¨ Tell Us What You’d Like to See
You can be specific when you contact us: “I’d really use a pool, but I also need a place for my desk,” or “I want a balcony and don’t need a long list of shared amenities.” That helps us talk about homes that suit you, rather than sending you back to compare everything.
Contact Putnam Properties or call 931-520-0859 to schedule your tour. Virtual tours are available Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM Central Time, through FaceTime or Google Meet. We need a copy of your ID and four weeks of income proof to schedule.
Browse current homes, save a few you like, and tell us which outdoor spaces you want to see.
