Highway 111 might be the road you drive most. Start with where you need to go each day. Maybe you use it to get to work, drive out of town often, or want to compare places in both Cookeville and Algood.
A place can look great in the photos and still leave you with a drive you don’t want to make twice a day. Before you get attached to a listing, pull up the route from that address to your usual stops. Give it the same attention as the rent and bedroom count.
For a Tennessee Tech student, that means checking the trip to the parking lot you’ll use, then allowing time to walk to class. If you work in Sparta or Livingston, check your route in that direction. If you’re sharing the place, check your roommate’s drive, too.
๐ Where Is Highway 111 in Cookeville?
Highway 111 runs north and south through the Cookeville area and connects with I-40. If you’re new here, the city’s transportation overview and Cookeville city overview can help you get your bearings.
Being near the highway can be useful, but you’ll still have local streets to drive before you reach it. Look at the entrance you’d actually use and the turns between the home and your route.
For example, you might be comfortable with one home’s turn onto a busier road and prefer to avoid another. That’s worth finding out before signing a lease. Need a starting list? Try our 10 questions to ask before signing a lease in Cookeville. Drive the route when you have time to pay attention, rather than trying to decide while you’re rushing to the next tour.
โจ Where Should You Start Looking?
Start With Quarry Run in Algood
At Quarry Run in Algood, you’ll find two- and three-bedroom apartments with private balconies and access to Highway 111 and I-40. It’s worth a look if those roads are part of your week. Ask us what’s available before making plans around a particular apartment.
Use the available apartment’s address to check your drive. Then spend some time on the layout. Where would you study or work? Could you and a roommate use the living room without getting in each other’s way? A shorter commute is helpful, but you still need somewhere to put your desk.
Quarry Run’s amenities include a pool and pool house and washer/dryer hookups. Ask which features and terms apply to the apartment you’re considering. If you don’t already own a washer and dryer, the hookups are something to plan for.
Keep Rental Homes on the List
You don’t have to limit your search to apartment communities. Individual apartments and rental homes may work, too. Tell us which direction you travel and what you need in a home, and ask which current listings are worth a look.

๐ Check the Drive Before You Choose
Pick a normal day in your week and use it to compare the homes you like. If you need to be at work at 8 AM, check each route for that arrival time. A weekend afternoon estimate won’t answer the same question.
Be specific about where you’re going. For Tennessee Tech, use your parking area rather than a general campus pin. For work, use the entrance or lot you’ll actually need. The same goes for Cookeville Regional Medical Center, downtown, or a job in Sparta or Livingston.
A note on your phone is enough. For each place, jot down:
- The address and entrance you’ll use.
- Where you’re going and when you need to arrive.
- The route and estimated travel range for that time.
- Extra time for parking and walking.
- What the trip home looks like.
If you can, try the drive before deciding. Check directions while parked, or let a passenger handle navigation. Save the notes and photos for when you’re off the road.
We can’t give you one drive time from “near Highway 111” to Tennessee Tech. It depends on where you start, where you park, and when you travel. Traffic, weather, and construction can change it, too. Checking the address will tell you more than a general estimate.
Think About the Rest of Your Week
Say one home saves you ten minutes each way on a trip you make five days a week. That’s 100 minutes back in your week. This is just an example, but it shows why a difference that looks small on a map can matter when you make the drive often.
Now add your other regular stops. Do you go from class to work? Pick up groceries on the way home? Share a car? Check how each location would work for those trips before choosing based on one commute.
๐ Apartments or Rental Homes Near Highway 111?
Once you’ve checked the drive, think about what you need when you get home. An apartment, house, or townhome could work. The right choice depends on the actual place and what you’ll be responsible for.
What to Check in an Apartment
Look at the rooms you’ll use, the community amenities you care about, and how much furniture you’ll need. If a pool is one of them, see the best apartments and homes with swimming pools in Cookeville. Ask about parking, stairs, laundry, and outdoor upkeep. Don’t assume two apartment communities handle those things the same way.
Tour the actual apartment when possible. Stand where you’d put your bed or desk and listen with the windows closed. Walk from the parking area to the door. These small checks can help you picture living there more clearly than another look at the photos.
What to Check in a House or Townhome
If you want another room, a garage, or a different setup for shared living areas, include houses and townhomes in your search. Check each listing carefully. A house may not have a fenced yard, and a townhome may not have a garage.
Ask who handles the lawn and other upkeep, what parking is available, and which utilities you’ll pay separately. If the yard is a big reason you like the home, make sure you understand the work that comes with it.
Compare our communities alongside the current rental listings.
๐ก What to Ask During Your Tour
Bring the questions you haven’t answered from the listing. Take a few notes while you’re inside or safely parked, especially if you’re seeing several places. You’ll want to remember which home had the laundry setup you liked and which one needed another look.
Use the tour to sort out costs as well as rooms. Which utilities do you need to set up? What will you pay beyond rent? If you have a pet, review the home’s current policy and our PetScreening guide and the Putnam Properties PetScreening site before applying.
Tell us what you need to work out. Maybe you get home after dark, need a quiet place for video calls, or are bringing furniture you’re not sure will fit. Ask about lighting, listen while you’re there, and take measurements. You don’t have to decide everything during the first visit.

โจ Ready to Look at a Few Places?
Start with a few homes that fit your budget and must-haves. Check the drive, tour the places you like, and ask about anything you’re unsure of. You don’t need to have the whole move figured out before getting in touch.
Take a look at our available apartments and homes, then contact Putnam Properties or call 931-520-0859 to schedule your tour. Tell us what you’re looking for, and we can talk through the options.
